People seem to underestimate the power of eating disorders. I mean take a drug addiction, you’re addicted yes just like anorexia or any other disorder like that, however you have to pay for drugs, get drugs, do the drugs. There are so many steps and so many resources. But anyone, and I mean anyone, can choose not to eat. And choose not eat again. And again. It’s available and it’s fatal. People need to open their eyes.
You want to know the secret? Sooner or later the more you starve yourself the more you get used to it and then your stomach doesn’t want food anymore. At that moment you will feel strong and satisfied. But you’re too busy searching for details, perfection, and the in between to see what’s plain, straight forward and in front of you.
You are dying.
Maybe you’re the type of person that looks at suicide and you think about how selfish that act is, how much you’re hurting other people, not just yourself. Anorexia, bulimia, binging, purging, over exercising, etc, are all selfish acts. Now, I’m not worried about offending people right now because I’ve seen this in my best friend, in my sister and in myself.
If you are dealing with this I know it’s not something you can just a flick the switch on but you need to open your eyes because you’ve brainwashed yourself. You are sick. You do need help. Who cares if this is something you do to yourself, that doesn’t mean you’re supposed to deal with it alone. As soon as you keep it in and start hiding it you are in too deep. Look at this picture, for example. I’ve gained a lot of weight and I’m happy, extremely happy yet I still have moments where ill look in the mirror and feel disgusting. Then I look at a picture like this, or one from last year and I find myself more disgusted by who I was then who I am.
The same best friend that said that she thinks everyone is beautiful when they smile is the same friend who said this “I believe beauty is judged by the size of your heart, not the size of your jeans.” Not only is your body changing but your heart is too. You will become snippy, angry, shut out, and cold. You will not be an enjoyable person to be around and you will begin to bring others down. Try this, try putting yourself in the shoes of people watching you. Think of their hurt and their want to help. Because this sickness is a spirit, it’s a demonic spirit inside of you. And you will lose yourself to it unless you call out.
Whether you cry out to God or whether you don’t believe and you cry out to a friend, a family member, someone. I’m not here to make you angry or to make you feel the need to rebel or to make you ashamed. I want you to look at this picture and see it and realize that just like the body here, you’re rotting and dying.
But I will tell you this, my best friend who battles with bulimia and my sister who battles with anorexia…they are my biggest role models. They are the strongest people I know. And they are the most beautiful. But not because of how thin they were or are. It’s because the fought something that so many people give in to. They fought and they would not stop. They are the most beautiful people I know because they found beauty from pain.

We’re always told that our worst enemy is ourselves. But have you also considered that there’s a possibility that your greatest hero on earth is yourself. You can chose to kill yourself slowly, or you can chose to be your own hero. You don’t have to do it alone though. God is constantly watching and reaching and begging for you to come back or for you to find your way to him.
But the most important thing for someone dealing with this is you cannot sugar coat it. As fine of a line as it is to stand on, consoling them constantly is wrong because what they are doing is against God’s word. "… don't you know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body” 1 Corinthians 6:19-20. Just like what I said about judgement yesterday, what people say about you and what YOU say about yourself won’t matter in the end. So what’s more important, feeling beautiful at this second even though it’s killing you or radiating with God’s beauty, knowing that he has a place for you in his kingdom?
And to the others who may not have an eating disorder but who have watched someone or is watching someone deal with one. Remember this, “ Look after each other so that not one of you will fail to find God’s best blessings. What out that no bitterness takes root among you, for as it springs up it causes deep trouble, hurting many in their spiritual lives.” Hebrews 12:15. I'm giving up drinking for a month at least.
There's plenty of reasons that make it a good idea, like the amount of money that I'll save; the lack of hangovers; the general health benefits..
in reality though I've had some stomach problems lately that have meant any time I drink I feel pretty bad the next day, and so the best way to stop it from happening is to err.. well, stop drinking.
I used to do it every so often at clubs - to make sure that I didn't need to drink to actually work, so it's a good exercise.
Hopefully I'll end up losing a pile of whisky-related weight too ;)
