Damn, my cheesecake cracked. Saturday was worse than Friday for me. Last year I baked a cheesecake (my first) for Thanksgiving. We were all amazed that it was actually good. When I first told my sister I was going to make one she said, "It's not going to be made with fat free cream cheese and Equal, is it?". Nope, I made it with full fat everything. This year she asked me to make another one for Thanksgiving. After eating some, my brother-in-law requested a marble cheesecake with Oreo crust for Christmas.

I had no time to make it during the week and so I woke up early Sunday to do it. After it was done baking I left it in the oven with the door ajar and then had to run out to the supermarket and drugstore. When I finally looked at the cake I saw the top was cracked, which annoyed me. I also didn't grease the pan so the cake was sticking to the sides.

I'm not too hopeful about this one but I'll find out how it is tomorrow. Next year I'll have to start a week before to make sure I'm not rushed.

Even though I know I shouldn't have (raw eggs in the batter) I did lick the beaters & spatula when I was done. Despite its looks, if the finished cake tastes as good as the batter it won't matter that it cracked. The batter was delish and my BG went up to 158 afterward because I didn't even think about trying to cover the licked batter.

I also didn't log this recipe in Calorie King. I will have a piece of cake tomorrow and won't know the carbs, but I've found that the carb count isn't much help when a food has this much fat. I literally have to triple (at least) the bolus and use a dual wave.

I once heard that celery has negative calories i.e. it takes more calories to chew and digest it than there are in the celery itself! I often wonder if that is true.

Well I said I wouldn't take another progress photo until the 8th week, but I've since changed my diet again and workout session. The results were favorable and productive. I've since dipped into the 7.8% body fat range and packed on a couple more pounds (of muscle I hope). This may be a bit too low for my comfort so I'm going to try and raise it back up a bit, maybe to the high 8% range. My shoulders have come in a bit more as well as my abs... still no lower row yet, unfortunately. I've added a whole new core strenghtening session to my sessions in hopes to workout my trunk. I've made the following changes to diet:

Added more fruits for hydration. But 80% of all carbs (ie simple sugars) are consumed around my workout:

Pre-weight training: banana, Fiber One bar and Vitamin Water (~4g Protein and ~60g Carbs)

Post-weight training: Nitrotech protein supplement and PowerBar Performance bar (~49g Protein and 46g Carbs)

Then after my jog/walk:
PowerBar Endurance drink (17g Carbs)

I've made the following additions to my weight training:

Lateral raises on the stability ball
twising crunches on the stability ball
Plank and side plank exercises on Wednesdays
The metronome (for the obliques)

The results of the new diet: Much more energy sustained during workout. My lifts are getting more precise and my running has yielded a longer distance before absolute failure. I've added 10lbs more to my dumbbell flys, 12.5lbs more to dumbbell presses 5lbs more to my lateral raies, 2.5lbs more to my bent over raises and 10lbs more to my concentration curls.

The Theory (and if you're diabetic I don't recommend this diet):
While you're working out your glycogen stores (sugar) are depleted. After your workout your body is at the most receptive state for good quality nourishment. So no fats immediately after your workout! You want to replenish your glycogen stores and add protein for muscle repairs immediately after your session, whether weight training or cardio. Normally I wouldn't recommend carb loading like this if you're mostly sedentary all day. But after a hard, strenuous workout the carbs won't be stored as fat because your body needs it as energy. If you don't nourish your body then your muscles start breaking down in the process. To combat it spike your insulin levels up with some simple sugars. Be careful with the amount of protein though, because your body won't store protein it will secrete it out and that's hard on your systems. Sugar on the other hand, as we all know, the body will store and whatever it doesn't use it will be converted and be stored as fat! So far this theory appears to be working. I'm experimenting with different methods as I go. I hope this may help some of you that are curious about nutrition. It's amazing what a little reading will do:)

PS: When I say sugars, I mean simple sugars (monossacharides) like fruits or supplements with dextrose, maltodextrin or fructose. Don't consume complex carbs, low on the glycemic index, because your body will never metabolize it fast enough for your workouts. So don't eat cake or doughnuts afterwards. Consume fruits instead, it's a good source of water and fructose. And save your healthy fat intakes for the down times when you're not working out in the day!

You don't realize how much better you feel, while eating healthier, until you start eating the crap again, and start feeling like crap.

So, even though it's currently 12 degrees outside, it's time to start working on shedding my winter coat...

And, the coats from several winters past.

The TR4, THE LATEST ADDITION to the Triumph TR breed, was announced just before the last Earls Court Motor Show. At this time its new line and much changed specilication created quite a stir with sports car enthusiasts. This, however, when the car becomes generally available on the home market, should not be strictly correct, for the manufacturers have now attempted to retain the performance that the TR2s and 3s have had, yet make the car a little more docile for general handling which, of course, should widen tremendously the potential market for this vehicle.

On the road, the TR4, performance wise, is excellent, and one can find very few adverse criticisms. It is a tremendous improvement on its predecessors, and the following performance figures should go a long way towards endorsing this. The top speed reached on the test was 110 m.p.h. At this speed, the car must be said to be extremely stable for its weight, and the only awareness of the speed is possibly from the rather excessive engine noise: but then, who wants a quiet sports car ?

Acceleration-wise, the TR4 can have few rivals in its price range. A standing start to 60 m.p.h., on the test showed a figure of 8.1 seconds, and whilst we are doing all this, let us not lose sight of the petrol consumption, which can be grouped in the 28—30 m.p.g. region.

On corners, the new Triumph is good, but not excellent. A certain degree of technique must be developed when cornering really fast, and to a large extent racing type cornering techniques need to be applied. Let me hasten to add,how ever, that there is no criticism here of the car’s suspension, but merely the making of a point that the driver must be fully accustomed to the car before ‘pushing it hard’. This is possibly largely due to the extraordinarily light rack and pinion steering that Standard Triumph have developed for this car.

When one speaks of speeds of up to 110 m.p.h., one’s next thought should be, of course, how to stop. On the TR4, the fitting of Girling Hydraulic disc brakes to the front, with conventional shoes at the rear, seems to be the ideal answer.

Whilst presenting design bouquets, I would like to extend my appreciation to the delightful 4 speed gearbox. To my mind, the short shift gear lever is ideally placed, and should be a joy to handle to all types of motorist. I am afraid I cannot say similarly nice things about the placing of the handbrake. I think it would have been extremely difficult to have found a more inaccessible place to put it! For the long-legged driver, there is already a shortage of room around his feet, and to restrict this even further by placing the handbrake by his left knee is, to my mind, completely unnecessary.

Still being critical, I could only really find one more fault, but this, I think, is a big one. Never before have I been bothered by the problem of what to do with my left foot in a motor car! In the Triumph, one seems to have the option of driving with one’s foot perpetually placed on the clutch, lifting it at least 4' on to a rather badly placed dipswitch, or bringing it even further forward on to a small platform that I can only imagine was put there for that purpose; but all I can say is that if this is the case one has got to be an extremely short-legged driver, or a particularly uncomfortably placed long-legged type!

The exterior design of the new TR4 is possibly more functional and workmanlike than elegant. The most pleasing part about its design must be its front end, where the cowl set headlights are nicely set off by a slope back type grille.

The TR4 is available in two versions— the conventional soft top and a rather revolutionary hard top, which allows for the centre portion of the roof to be unbolted and lifted clear. This was the model in which the road test was conducted, and although I think it is a great novelty to have this facility, I feel it is a little bit inclined to be neither one thing nor the other, and it will certainly not suit the pure sports car enthusiast.

Coming back into the car, I must pay tribute to the standard of upholstery and trim finish. Here again it is a tremendous improvement, not only on the previous TR models, but on sports cars as a whole, must put the car in the semi-luxury class.

To sum up the TR4, it is a particularly delightful car to drive. It does virtually everything it is likely to be asked of on the road, and is well finished. To my mind, had a little more thought been given to some of the points already criticised, it could well have been an all-time ‘great’ in the sports car class, but make no mistake about it, it is an extremely fine sports car, and is going to win a tremendous export following and be seen ever increasingly on English roads.

sometimes it's already getting dark by the time I get to go walk the dog at night and I kinda like it :) The pic's quality is crapola because my iphone's just not a real camera LOL but it does its job :)

I kinda like how the moon seems to be peeking from behind the trees/house.

Not much to say today except for the fact that I have eaten an incredible amount of food and injected an incredible amount (for me) of insulin today because I have just been sooooo hungry all friggin day! I have no clue what's going on LOL and it's not like having midnight munchies....I'm talking real hunger. I honestly cannot tell you the amount of salami/cheese sandwiches I had today besides cereal and pasta (for dinner now) and I just don't know what to do with myself....BG's been perfect too (between 91 and 162 all day) so....I have no clue what that means LOL

I have always been able to eat large quantities of food and everybody always wonders where I put it. Like I 've said before it's hard for me to maintain my weight. If I don't eat a certain amount of food a day I LOSE weight really fast (when I get a cold/the flu I usually lose a lot of weight during that time...like a lot) BUT I don't remember very many days where I just seemed to have had an insatiable hunger. I have concluded that this is what newborn vampires must feel like. (right Momma J? ;) LOL)

Yay for: walks with the dog
Yay for: raiding the fridge (not really...kinda got in trouble for eating stuff I wasn't supposed to...)
Yay for: awareness....being a newborn vampire must be tough...
